How to Submit Your Wardriving Logs to WiGLE
You've done a wardrive and have a log file. Here's exactly how to create a WiGLE account, format your file, upload it, and have your networks counted.
WiGLE (Wireless Geographic Logging Engine) is the largest public database of observed Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Submitting your wardriving logs adds to the global map and builds your personal stats. Here's the full process from log file to uploaded submission.
Step 1 — Create a WiGLE account
Go to wigle.net and register a free account. Your account tracks total networks uploaded, unique discoveries, rank on the leaderboard, and geographic coverage.
You need an account to upload files. Registration is free and doesn't require personal details beyond a username and email.
Step 2 — Understand the file formats WiGLE accepts
WiGLE accepts several formats:
- .csv — WiGLE CSV format (most common for dedicated hardware)
- .kismet.netxml — Kismet export
- .ns1 — NetStumbler format
- .gps — Kismet GPS files paired with netxml
If you're using the SigBin Labs BW20-07s WarDriver or SigBin Drive, your SD card logs are saved in WiGLE-compatible CSV format. No conversion needed.
If you're using the WiGLE WiFi Android app, the app handles file generation automatically — you just export and upload.
Step 3 — Retrieve your log file
From dedicated hardware (BW20-07s / SigBin Drive):
- Power off the device after your session
- Remove the microSD card
- Copy the
.csvlog file to your computer
From Android (WiGLE WiFi app):
- Open the app → Menu → Upload or Export
- Files are stored at
/sdcard/wiggle/on your phone
Step 4 — Upload to WiGLE
1. Log in to wigle.net
2. Go to Upload in the top navigation
3. Click Choose File and select your log file
4. Click Upload
WiGLE processes the file and counts unique networks — BSSIDs not previously in the database or not previously in your personal logs. Your stats update within a few minutes to a few hours depending on file size.
Step 5 — Verify your submission
After uploading, go to My Account → Uploads to see the status of your submission. Successful uploads show a count of networks found and how many were new.
If a file fails to process, WiGLE shows an error. Common causes:
- File encoding issues (should be UTF-8)
- Truncated file from a hardware reset mid-session
- Incorrect file format
Tips for clean submissions
- End sessions cleanly — always power off the device properly before removing the SD card to avoid log truncation
- Log continuously — even stopped traffic lights or parking lots add unique BSSIDs
- Upload regularly — frequent uploads build stats faster and keep your data fresh on the map
- Check the map — wigle.net lets you view your coverage area on a map after submission
WiGLE and wdgwars
WiGLE and wdgwars are separate platforms but use compatible file formats. The same log file you submit to WiGLE can also be submitted to wdgwars competitions. Run the drive, log once, submit both.
