SigBin Drive — What It Does and Who It's For

Wardriving used to mean carrying a laptop, an external Wi-Fi adapter, a GPS dongle, and a battery pack. The SigBin Drive replaces all of that with a single device that fits in a jacket pocket.

What is the SigBin Drive?

The SigBin Drive is a dedicated wardriving device built around the Realtek BW20-07s dual-band module. It scans for Wi-Fi networks on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz while logging each discovery with GPS coordinates to a microSD card.

No phone needed. No laptop needed. No software to configure in the field. You power it on, drive, and power it off when done. The SD card holds your logs.

What it captures

For every detected network, the SigBin Drive logs:

• BSSID — the hardware address of the access point
• SSID — the network name (if broadcast)
• Signal strength (RSSI) — how strong the signal is at your location
• Channel and frequency — whether the AP is on 2.4GHz or 5GHz
• GPS coordinates — latitude and longitude at time of detection
• Timestamp — UTC time of detection

This produces a WiGLE-compatible CSV log file on the SD card.

How it's different from using a phone

A phone running the WiGLE app can wardrive — but there are real tradeoffs:

• Phones prioritize battery life and throttle background scanning
• A wardrive session drains the battery significantly
• Phones don't expose the full 5GHz scanning capability in the same way
• You can't easily use your phone for navigation while it's actively wardriving

The SigBin Drive handles everything independently. Your phone stays free for navigation, calls, and other use.

Field use

The typical workflow:

1. Insert a formatted microSD card

2. Power on the device

3. Drive your route — the device scans and logs automatically

4. Power off cleanly when done

5. Pull the SD card and upload the CSV to WiGLE or wdgwars

Sessions can run continuously for several hours depending on battery configuration.
